I can successfully restore my production database to an IIS 7.0-based server. However, when I run through the exact same steps (restore database, copy files, set permissions, etc) to restore to a WS 2008 R2 server running IIS 7.5 I receive the following error.

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Error Code

0x8007000d

Any idea on what the difference is, in terms of web.config, between IIS 7.0 and IIS 7.5?

Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Have you made any changes to web.config (presumably to point to new db server)?  Have a check and make sure that your xml is well-formed

Yes, I have. I copied the full contents of the web folder and modified the web.config to adjust the connection string. That was the only change I made from the production server. The same web.config file (with the connection string edit) works fine on an IIE 7.0 server.

Thanks.

Mark

Have you changed one connection string or both?  Be sure you modified both connection strings!  Be sure you set the physical folder and file permissions for the application pool usser with full permissions and for the IIS_IUser with read permission and inherit it to all subfolders and files!

Did you use the same .NET version ?

Hi Matthia,

Yes, I made the connection string change in both places. This could be a permissions issue. What I had previously done is assign NETWORK SERVICE to the default application pool and then make sure that NETWORK SERVICE has modify rights to the web folder and subfolders.

I have never dealt with IIS_IUsers before (and have never needed to do so). Is this a 7.5 specific thing? I did just give Read access to the web folder and subfolders for that account but still no luck.

The application pool is running off .Net version 4.0 (as it was on the production server and also the IIS 7.0 server onto which I successfully restored).

Thanks again.

Mark
