Hello, I have a production DNN installed on a dedicated server. It is in the root of the IIS system, so the web.config is too.

Now I want/need to setup a testenvironment beside the production site, so I created a new directory in IIS and copied all of the IIS security and other settings to the new DNN folder. Then I unzipped the latest DNN vwersion 6.2.2 into this folder and I created a new database called TestEnvoronment.mdf and I also changed the database name in the web.config accordingly.

Now the strange part: When I fire the new website in order to get the portal installed I get an error message that certain are not present:

Server Error in '/AA_HVE_Portaal_TestOmgeving_VDW' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: De codesubmap /AA_HVE_Portaal_TestOmgeving_VDW/App_Code/HoekVonkErosie.HVE_LGS_03_MachineGroep/ bestaat niet.

Source Error:

Line 186: -->Line 187: <codeSubDirectories>
Line 188: <add directoryName="HoekVonkErosie.HVE_LGS_03_MachineGroep" />
Line 189: <add directoryName="HoekVonkErosie.HVE_LGS_04_Locatie" />
Line 190: <add directoryName="HoekVonkErosie.HVE_LGS_17_ObjectPartCascade" />

Source File: C:\AA_HVE_Portaal\web.config    Line: 188

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3634; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3634

wich is true, because this is a new DNN installation.

These folders do exist in the production website that was already there. The error also points to the culprit web.config: the one in the production folder. But the parser error message points to the correct folder!

So how do I get the test DNN get to use the correct web.config in the test environment?

Thanks,

Jos

this sounds like a setup issue of your IIS website, please make sure, there is no redirect or anything like this. Fiddler may help you to identify, where the redirect happens.

Hi Sebastian, how are you?

thnaks for the reply,

Where should I look for any redirect? The installationscript takes the web.config from the designated folder as far as I know, so there is no redirect hen. Unless IIS has this feature..... I don´t know.

What is fiddler?

Thanks,

Jos

OK, I got Fiddler from their website and I installed it on the server.

It is a nifty program that shows lots of information about the websites it discovers.

So I sat down and investigeted Fiddler´s outcome, but nowhere to be found why the web.config from the ROOT was read from instead of the web.config from the DNN´s test environment.

Please advise!

Thanks,

Jos

please make sure not to place your new website inside wwwroot or the root of a different web site.
