I have just been tasked with working on a DotNetNuke website which a developer (he's no longer employed here) in our company built with the Community version of DotNetNuke.  Which install configuration do I use so that I can modify the code on the existent website?  The website is using SQL Server 2008 to pull data into the webiste.  We have two .rar files that the developer completed and left behing for us to use.  Please let me know as soon as possible what steps to take (which download) so that I can view the code used on the website and modify it if needed.

Basicly there is a groundsystem of DNN which presents the Basic functions and can be used as a Framework This is the DotNetNuke if self.  The Basic System is updated from DNN by new Versions to fix issues and make enhancements.  So you have to know what Version are in use, you can check this on your site on the system setting.

Custom Enhancements should are made as a module, provider, widget or skin, that packaged as a zip file and could be installed by uploading as a Systemadministrator of the DNN instance.

Content are managed over the DNN site.

If you Need to develope enhancement you need to know for what DNN Version and you should then create a local instance on the developer Maschine using the starter package on the Version you needed.  Of cause you also can use the newest Version for developing, but you have to know that the min. Version your production page is running must be have the Version with the enhancement was created with.

If you are just looking to do maintenance on the existing content, you can do this by logging in online using the administrator or the host account. Either one of those will have edit rights to the installed content.

If you want to add new pages/modules you have additional options if you log in with the host credentials. [including the ability to install new modules - admin can only create instances of modules host has already installed for use]

If the departing developer did not give you both host and admin log in details grab him quick - and reset the passwords for those accounts - they are an open door to your website.
