Running on Windows 7 IIS7. My development web site was running fine yesterday. Tried to load it just now and get the following error :-

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.GetSkin(PageBase page) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace

The home page won't load it just says DNN Error and a button to "Return to Site".

I thought it might be something to do with a module I created earlier so I deleted the web site completely, destroyed and recreated the database and installed DNN again. I still get the same error.

Any ideas?

Regards

 Mike

I'd wager the cache was corrupted after you created your last module and now your AppPool has you held hostage...
Try recycling the AppPool to which you've attached the site
Then open a cmd window and type in IISRESET
Hit the site in a fresh browser instance, not a new tab in an existing browser instance

Hi,

Not sure if that helped. It probably did! :-)

I noticed that the dnndev app pool said it had 4 applications instead of one. I eventually figured out that it had made virtual directories of my desktop modules. Would this have caused it?

In the end I removed the site and added it again and it fired back into life.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Mike

I have seen this mysterious creation of VDirs and/or Applications in IIS. It *does* stop the dev environment working. I don't recall if it's given me that specific error.
