I thought I had done all the steps correctly when moving from one host to another (new host is Mochahost), but after navigating to the temp URL for the new host prior to the DNS records being updated I am getting a 404 error, as soon as I navigate to the site via the temp URL.

I backed up the DB and site files from old site into zipped files. Unzipped the files into the new site (into the root) and restored the DB on the new MS SQL server. I configured the web.config for the new connection string on the DB.

The only difference I can see between the two hosts is that the SQL Server is 2012 on the new host and not 2008 as it was on the old host (which should not matter).

The new host offers multiple websites/ domains on the one package.

I'm not sure where to go from here to get it sorted out.

Is the 404 before you even get to your site? If so it's (probably) external to DNN.

If you see the site frontpage but the links from the front page give the 404 then probably your new DB needs a row in the PortalAlias table to reflect the temp URL you have been given.

Is the temp URL in the portals table in the database?

I don't see anything of the DNN installation - the page is white with the 404 error. All that's visible is on the TAB ICON - the defafult DNN favicon and the chars - {0}
This is the error:
404 Not Found
The requested Url does not return any valid content.
Administrators
Change this message by configuring a specific 404 Error Page or Url for this website.

The temp URL is not in the DB portals table as I don't have any access to the site to put it in.
I do have access to the DB via MS SQL Management Server. If I can do it manually what entries need to be made into which tables?

Thanks for the assist.

I've just added the temp URL to the PortalAlias table (nothing complicated about it thank goodness, as I learn something new).

Refreshed the web page for the site and same error.
