Hi, I'm trying to set up dnn on my home computer.

I been following the DNN 7.0 Installation videos step by step and I'm currently on Part 3 - Database Configuration . But I'm stuck at the 1:31 part. and keep getting this error message and I can't seem to get past this. Any ideas what could be causing this issue would be of tremendous help. Thanks!

did you install full version of SQL Server as Default instance? If you are using a name instance, you'll have to add the name after server name, e.g. .\sqlexpress.
Also make sure, you enabled TCP/IP protocol for both, SQL client and server.
If SQL server is on another machine, you will need to provide machine name, allow remote access for sql server and open necessary ports in the firewall.

I installed 2008 SOL Server Management studio on my home pc from microsoft.com

If i named the instance like the video did "dnndev.me" how would the server name look or is it just a "period"?

I'm not sure how or where to enable the TCP/IP protocol for either

Thanks I really appreciate all your help!

if you are using a named instance of sql server, you need to connect it locally using .\dnndev.me
TCP/IP should have been installed by default.

Omar - you said "I installed 2008 SOL Server Management studio".

That is only the management tool. Did you install the database (SQL Server, or SQL Server Express) AS WELL?

Best wishes,
