I am trying to set up DNN on a server, but I am having difficulties getting it to connect to the db (SQL Server 2008) during setup. I've followed the installation videos, created users for the IIS AppPool account, the network service account, and a new user account I created in Sql Server, all of which are db_owner.

TCP/IP is enabled for both SQL Server and the client. I've created a UDL to test the connection, and everything appears correct. Regardless of which user account I specify in the web.config, I get the following during the setup:

No valid default database connection detected. Standard Database setup option is unavailable

Any ideas why this might be happening?

The "standard" database configuration in DNN is to use SQL Express locally, if you don't have that configured it won't use the standard option.

Have you tried not using the standard option, then configuring the connection string information?

How do you change from the standard option? I assumed that by specifying the connection information in the web.config I would be able to point the database wherever I wanted.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but the "default" and "custom" radio buttons that display during the setup don't seem to do anything. "Database connection error" is displayed below them.

Hello,

I'm just wondering if this issue is resolved. I have the same issue connecting to database(Remote Server) during installation and do not have exact clue. Please advise or post here if the issue is resolved.

Appreciate your help !!

Thanks
