the installation page loads, but will not proceed to step 2

I have tried setting the DB to look at file | Tried from the server.  Tried SA uername as well as DNNDEV.me & Developer{my account}  all with appropriate passwords.

Used the .\Server   And localhost\server &   I uninstalled SQL Express 3 times now with fresh installs of SQL Express & DNN  numerous times now,  only thing I have not tried is reformatting the hhd as I do not have the Key to type back in Or I would just to see if it is windows 10.

No Error message appears, and it tries to validate the db connection after the postback but remains on initial page.   IT does flash a message, but does not stay visible for longer than microseconds.  I looked in Chrome's Element browser, no data is available to check it seems to get wiped out after page renders from post back.  I followed these instruction to the T!   ::  https://youtu.be/kOoQJDeTlJ0

When Chris gets to the point of adding DB data to the form his UI provides GREEN check boxes upon typing, My site only shows those on submit

8.04 in the video is where my site starts to error out.  I would create a video to share my frustrations but I lack the tools to do so efficiently.

This is really starting to get tedious and annoying the fact a simple web application will not co-operate  :(   All I want to do is test my modules before I release them.  uggg

I appreciate the help, and hope you enjoy your DAY!!!

Hi,

I cannot speak for the video you are using. I've not seen it. I can confirm that I just installed DNN8 at the first attempt on my Win10 machine.

I don't use manual steps - I run my own powershell script. You are welcome to a copy but be warned it's a private, personal script, it was never intended for release, it makes assumptions about the environment I use and comes with no support whatsoever.

Best wishes,

BTW - it's a bad practice to create multiple posts about the same problem.

I was trying to update this post, not create a new one.

So I found the first error in my efforts was the Default server name, I kept changing it,  by leaving it to SQLExpress i am able to get further in the Install process, but still will not propagate for me.

But anyway I have made some progress on ERROR.  After a bunch of restarts, It keeps boiling down to :::

No valid default database connection detected. Standard Database setup option is unavailable

How ever I can login in management studio with same credentials??    I now have like 5 different SQL Express installs, not sure if that matters?

I did a fresh install on a secondary device and EVERYTHING worked as it should.  I am following same steps on both machines.   Except this testing one is no good for development, and my dev box has like 4 instances of visual studio and like 4-6 instances of SQLExpress all running and connectable simultaneously in mngtstudio.   Here is the breakdown of what I see first this::

Then couple seconds::

This is 90% of the reason I been doing EVERYTHING in JSON for the last year, I hate this stuff, would prefer to be working on my project not bashing head into wall.  Any one got an idea what I am doing wrong,  or what settings I screwed up??    The only difference between  this machine and the working one is CPU & the other machine is a clean windows 8 pro  this is an upgraded to win10 and this machine actually has a CPU.  I really doubt it is an issue with windows 10,  but is the only thing standing out to me.

Any Details I forgot to provide let me know ill dig em up...   This one has got me  :(  2 weeks wasted so far being baffled

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME & EFFORTS COMMUNITY!!!!    &&  ENJOY YOUR DAY!!!!!

it looks like you installed SQL Express as default instance, i.e. the server name is just "." (without quotation mark) if you are on the same machine, [machineName] otherwise (but would require to enable remote aceess.
I suggest not to use user instance database, instead you should create a blank (attached) database and a SQL server user account with dbowner permission and use it in your connection string (or install wizard).
