Ok. I actually used the New Install installation from Codeplex (here) and not the source code.

Please excuse me for the misunderstanding.

Thanks

to run DNN source package, you need to build the solution first.

Codeplex doesn't include the source code for DNN 8. It's on Github only.

I must be missing your point. Why do I want to use the source files when I have downloaded the 8.0 install files (which are already compiled)?

Please excuse me if I am sound thick.

Thank you

You don't need the source. I didn't see your message about source and I retract my reply to Sebastian.

As for your error, make sure your site's app pool in IIS is running in Integrated mode, not classic.

I'm having this exact same issue. I got errors with the installation packages, so I downloaded and compiled the full source. I still get the same error, and it is on the line below when it tries to load the skin as a user control.

//load from a user control on the file system
ctrl = (T) containerControl.LoadControl("~/" + ControlSrc);

I also had no issues with the install or when building the project, it is just at this point that everything errors out. I have run my site's app pool in integrated mode but it makes no difference. Any ideas?
