Hi There,

I have just hit a major problem with my hosts Fasthosts.

I have found out that when I purchase an additional domain to point at my install, the only way I can do it is by using "forwarding". Fasthosts are offering 2 types of forwarding...

1. Where the domain name changes in the browser when a user goes to the address, ie, when someone puts in www.abc.co.uk, it transfers them to www.def.co.uk and changes the url in the browser.

2. Where frames are used. ie the url doesn't change in the browser. (Yuck!)

Neither of the above seem to be what I want. But, Fasthosts just say, "that's the way it is sucker!"

The control panel does however offer me the ability to change the IP address that the "A" record of the domain points at.

So, i did try pinging my "main" url, and forwarding my second domain name to this IP address, but this doesn't seem to work.

Has anyone got any other ideas/thoughts please?

Thanks

Trev

ahh the propagation shimmy.

I hate to say this but some of my most effective slutions involve the purchase of something at another server.

But before you do that, can't you forward to the skeleton url (virtual pathname) of your main inde page?

Most of the time you don't need another domain from the host. (By Domain, most hosts usually think you need another mail account and another control panel account). What you usually need is called a domain alias or virtual domain. Eitherway, most hosts include domain aliases in thier packages.

Please see your host for more details. Sorry I have never used that host.
