Hi,

I have downloaded the source version, setup database connections, file permissions, creaed virtual directory in IIS, and configured web.config as described in the Wrox Professional DotNetNuke 4 book....however when I open the http://localhost/dotnetnuke, I am consistently getting the following error:

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden
Internet Explorer

You are not authorized to view this page

Tried disabling third party agents, antivirus, etc...no help...

Thanks,

Paul

This seems to me to be a permissions issue but without more information it's difficult to tell. Make sure you are giving full permissions to the proper account (localmachine)\ASPNET for Windows 2000 & XP or Network Service for Windows 2003.

Since you are using the source version I assume you are using a version of Visual Studio to build the source code. You might try the same procedures with an install or upgrade version which would tell you whether your installation procedure is in error or possibly just the source code is not getting compiled properly.

In any event you won't receive much help unless you post more info like your DNN version, Type of Windows and SQL database, permissions process, etc.

If you add the page to the end of your URL, do you still get the error?

In other words, try going to http://localhost/dotnetnuke/default.aspx

If that doesn't work, please reply with the error (if different) but also please try to go to a static file, for example:

http://localhost/dotnetnuke/logo.gif and what happens then?

Also, check to make sure that you have the asp.net extensions set to Allowed in the Web Service Extensions in IIS.

I am getting this too.  I have already deleted and reinstalled everything from scratch.  i get error 403 forbidden for localhost/dotnetnuke/default,aspx   but I can get localhost/dotnetnuke/logo.gif to display.

Any clues?  I am running this on W2k3 server, IIS6,  with MS SQL server and nothing else on the box.  The install worked both times for me, but I cannot get past the error 403 message to start logging on as host to do anything else.

My permissions are set as per instructions.

Have you double-checked that, in Web Service Extensions in IIS, asp.net has been enabled?
