Greetings all!

I have recently installed DNN 3.3.04 and I experience the following error message with each first browser request:

Access to the path "c:\****\*****\******\******\dnn\Portals\_default\EventQueue\Application_Start-1c7456ca-0db8-4706-b422-7fedb238e53a-0316dbab-11d4-475f-96b7-f9844696f16b.config" is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "c:\*****\*****\*****\*****\dnn\Portals\_default\EventQueue\Application_Start-1c7456ca-0db8-4706-b422-7fedb238e53a-0316dbab-11d4-475f-96b7-f9844696f16b.config" is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

Source Error:

   DotNetNuke.Services.EventQueue.EventQueueController.GetMessages(String eventName) +339
   DotNetNuke.Common.Global.Application_Start(Object Sender, EventArgs E) +395

Once I refresh the browser, the home page loads correctly and will continue to load correctly. If I check again after about 60 minutes, it returns the same error until I refresh the browser again. I have checked all permissions and ensured Network_Service has Read, Write & Execute permissions.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!!

Matt

Thanks Timo!

I read the thread you referenced and it confirmed my thoughts. The error has to be permissions related. So I tried the following:

I reset the permissions for NETWORK_SERVICE to Read, Write, Execute and Delete. After doing this, I tried to open the site in my browser. The site opened without the error. I left the permissions as they were overnight and checked again this morning ~ the site opened without the error. Then, I reset the permissions for NETWORK_SERVICE to Read, Write and Execute and checked the site again ~ no error!

I've been checking the site about every hour and haven't experienced the error yet. Interstingly enough, when I went back and looked at the files that are in the \portals\_default\eventque\ folder, none of the files with names that resemble CLASSID's or GUID-type names remained in the folder. Now I'm wondering if it was an issue that resulted in the original install..... the Delete permission wasn't present for NETWORK_SERVICE, so install couldn't complete its' routine. I didn't experience any error messages throughout the install, but the first time I called the site to complete the set-up, it did throw a runtime error.

So, for the time being, all is well. This might be a way to work-around this type of problem.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! If anything changes, I'll post back.

Thanks again!

Matt

Your welcome...
The reason for these kind of problems are almost always related to the rights of the user running the .NET process. This user must have Change (read write delete) rights on the install folder.
You should set the rights back to Change (delete) or you will get in trouble in the future...
(If you delete some files through the FileManage for instance)
