Ok, a bit of a weird one here.

I successfully installed DNN 4.3.5 on my local machine using SQLExpress. For whatever reason it simply refused point blank to install using SQL 2005 - that is another issue altogether! Anyway, the install worked and I spent the past week configuring the system and all went well.

Last night I attached the database using SQL Server Management Studio to the SQL Express server. The minute I did that my site stopped working! I now get the following error message: -

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'CAMPBELLF\ASPNET'.

I have not changed the IIS properties or anything else other than to attache the database so that I could look at it in the Management Studio.

The SQL 2005 install issue is another problem - it simply will not access the database.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately at this time, but a few hours ago I had the same situation. Thought you may want to know you are not alone with this... I suspect this has something to do with database permissions - I'm not going through forum trying to figure out correct way to configure DB permissions for SQL Express. As soon as I find a solution I will post it here.

Replying to my own problem, which is now fixed:

It does not answer the question of how my DNN was working without creating the database, or why did it stop working after about a week of successful operation. But I can confirm that following the above instructions fixes the problem.

Your SQL Conn Strings are off.  You need to use the (2) conn strings for SQL 2005 not SQL 2K5 Express at this point.  After you comment out the old conn strings and update the new ones just refresh the site.
