I downloaded 4.3.5 package, unzipped it into unblocking it first, changed connection strings, created virtual directory as suggested, every step successfull yet when I browse to my portal, all modules show error messages (unavailable). I try to log in using host/host or admin/admin no luck. I tried all the steps as outlined in install document. This is a new installation, not an upgrade. What is going on?

I have the same problem.  I have deleted, reinstalled, deleted, reinstalled dnn and still no go.  I have no access to login or any other page except the main page and in the title bar it says .."Default.aspx?def=ErrorMessage".  I have even redownloaded dnn and tried it that way.  The connection strings arecorrect or I am assuming it would not work at all!  What is going on?
