After DNN has been installed, can Visual Studio be removed from the computer without affecting the operation of the DNN installation?  Is DNN reliant upon Visual Studio for anything in it's day-to-day functioning?

DNN does not need Visual Studio for operation - my advice is not to install VS in productive environments for security reasons. VS is for developing modules (and maybe skins) but not for execution of DNN on a web server.

This is a common misconception among newcomers to DNN, specially those with technical backgrounds and/or access to Visual Studio. I don't think it is clear enough from the downloads page that you DO NOT need to have Visual Studio to install and run DNN. Nor that you DO NOT need to precompile DNN when installing the "Install Package".

I have respecfully recommended the Core Team to expand that first section description of the packages in the downloads page. I think that would avoid the initial confusion for some users.

Carlos
