I got a new laptop and I thought I had my site running just fine... well now when I try to run to my local install of DNN it is sending me to the old computername... this makes no sense... If I run to my computername in my browser with any static file in the path say help.gif it works just fine.. and when I run to say linkclick.aspx it works fine.. but when I run to default.aspx it sends me to the old computername.???

add the appropriate portal alias: log into your portal as host user, go to host: portals, enter your portal settings and add the alias at the bottom.

I think you misunderstood.. the portal wont come up.

The fix for this is to go into the portalalias table and update the value to the correct hostname of my new machine.. fixed me right up.

Thanks

I'm having this same problem, sort of.

I had a working DNN installation on a testing machine, so the portalalias table had localhost/dnn4

I've now given that test machine a static IP as a step toward making it live. I changed that portalalias field to [ipaddress]/dnn4. Now I get the following error in Firefox (IE just says page can't be displayed):

"The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

If you change the portalalias field directly in the DB, then you will need to restart the app because those settings are cached.
