We recently moved an installation of DNN 3.x to a new server. The site functions properly, and when we first moved the site we could login to the backend. No one has touched the site (I'm the only one w/ access) since.

This week we were unable to login to the backend of the DNN site. In IE we the menu does not show up like it used to, and we now receive the following error.

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

In Firefox we don't receive either an error message or the menu system by which we can perform administrative procedures.

Is anyone familiar with what critical error may ha
ve occurred in this situation, and how it could "suddenly" arise. Yes... from working in IT myself I know that 99% of the time it's because someone did something to the site, but I am the only one with access, and I haven't even looked in the same direction as the site since we installed it :)

I have the same error trying to log in as host.

I have a new fresh dnn 4.4 installation, changed the host password, and when I try to log in now I get the critical error above.  The log says it has to do with the authentication controller:

DotNetNuke.Security.Authentication.Configuration..ctor() at DotNetNuke.Security.Authentication.Configuration.GetConfig() at DotNetNuke.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationController..ctor()

How do I change the host password outside of dnn or is this not possible?
