I tried it out again with settings close to Declic's post above (click the thumbnail for mine) and so far it seems to be holding. The main difference from earlier for me is in specifying Deflate compression instead of Gzip. Gzip worked fine on 440 however.

I had the webresource and ebresource still in there from earlier as well.

I do not have webresource in the exception, but I have added it to check. It seems to work (after having clearing the cache). What is this webresource.axd  ??
Are you sure about "ebresource.axd", it seems like a typo error, a missing W in front of it ???

PS: Robax, is it working for you if you try to add a page ??? With this trick, seems to be ok... I will wait at least 24h to be sure.

Hi DV,

I did a fair amount of work on a subportal in my 441 last night, including adding and removing pages and experienced no obvious problems. I'll add and remove a page from the master portal right now to check.... Yes, it still works fine.

I added webresource.axd and ebresource.axd as I had seen them in another thread I had been following previously and they were then also discussed in this thread. That may well be the key if it makes yours work now too?

As for my own portal.. the compression and performance and functionality all seems to be working and even working well. The huge problem I'm having is all these exceptions to do with the search engine shedule and deadlocked threads. This has actually killed my virtual private server account every day since the 441 upgrade and I've detailed it in a new thread here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/mid/2108/threadid/103061/scope/posts/Default.aspx#103061

If I had been on the standard shared hosting account, I've no doubt they would have simply cut my site off altogether - as I have read about has happened to others. The VPS at least meant that it only took my own portals down.. but what a nightmare anyway!

I'm fairly convinced it's because I can't clear out the search tables, but I'll have to wait and see if someone can help me there.

Hello robax,

I did not put ebresource.axd, I am quite sure that it is someone who made a mistake while typing it. Without this file, only webresource.axd, it works perfectly !!! For many hours now... ;-)

The compression is completely astonishing, the performance is amazing (at least 2-3 times faster than before !!!!). I am on a share environment, and I do not experience cutting off site even with my application start/shutdown (why would they do so ???).

I thought I would add my experiences with this problem. I had MAJOR problems with Telerik's controls on my site as the all make extensive use of embeded resources (webresource.axd). I followed the advice in this thread and everything seems to work fine now.

I had compression working fine in 4.4.0 as well.

In the process of making my setting change to improve performance I get this error:

Error: Host Settings is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Host.HostSettingsModule.cmdUpdate_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

This is as far as I got with it (see image) what am I doing wrong?
