I have a copy of the above mentioned database programs. Which one will work best with DNN or any SQL hungry program?

compared with sql server 2000, sql server 2005 is next generation with additional options (not currently used by DNN), but free Express version has limitations for database size, RAM and number of processors used and is therefore only suitable for smaller sized installations.

Thanks Sebastian,

I just read that SQL server can use only one processor and 1 GB of ram. How many users do you believe this would manage in DNN in a social community setting? I need to look ahead to see when I should, not only budget a software upgrade, but a hardware upgrade too.

There is no absolute number, it depends on the general architecture (single server or separate machines for SQL server and IIS), the structure of your homepage (modules used, number of pages to be cached, number of personalized modules) and the frequency of visits.
