The host is right and you're right. DNN is a resource hog and the host won't provide the extra resources it requires.

The only real solution is to get more resources at your current host, or get a specialist host who make things work specifically for DNN.

You say you're losing business?.. that implies you're charging clients money for the hosting, so there's no excuse to not provide commercial quality resources. A cheapie shared account just won't do. If you're hosting multiple domains and portals, but not yet ready for your own dedicated server, then I highly recommend a VPS account. My support tickets went from hundreds to almost none overnight after I made the move. Performance went from nearly standstill to seconds.

Regards,
Rob

I have a domain at GoDaddy and my results came back 2045.

I have another hosting account at iHostASP.net and there are 261 others with me.  I haven't had any performance problems yet but if 155 is considered too high I guess iHost is pushing it.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  Site is just usable atm so not as bad as it was, but I definatly need to take action.

My business is a parenting website and I charge advertising space and premium listing prices.  I am loosing business in that I have potential buyers looking at my site and I know if I was them I would think the site was too slow and not sign up.

I have seen other posts stating that whilst my hosting provider does provide prompt customer support they don't provide great servers.  I am ready to move to a more proffessional hosting solution but have been having trouble finding a suitable provider.

DNN is an oxymoron.  On the one hand it is great for non technical people to build websites.  On the other hand it requires a certain degree of technical expertise to install and and upgrade.  I am looking for a hosting provider that will install DNN and perform upgrades for me.  My current hosting provider does it ($25 for an upgrade).

I have read that CrystalTech is prettty good, but they don't really provide DNN support.  PowerDNN seem perfect but it has been nearly 24hours and still no response to sales enquiry so a little bit of worry as to what their support is going to be like.

So any suggestions would be great.  As a startup only just begining to bring any money in I am really looking for around $20 USD per month and need minimum 300MB space and 1000MB bandwidth, though I need a scaleable option as we are expanding each month.

Many thanks

Liz

Just had a call form Tony from PowerDNN (which is quite impressive when you consider that I am based in the UK, and apparently I was sent an email last night which hasn't arrived).  He seems to think that I will see performance improvements so have signed up.  Will let you know if it makes a difference.

The real issue is not how many sites are hosted on a given system, but how active those sites are. 2000+ sites that only get 50-100 page hits per day  certainly aren't doing to cause a performance problem.  However, 1-2 sites that are high volume like DNN sharing your server would kill your performance. (I suspect that DNN uses a web-farm all by itself)

Also the performance of the SQL server would be just as important, and who know how bogged down it might be.
