I am creating a site that will have articles that I would like to require visitors to login or subscribe to view the page, but I would still like the pages to be searchable by the DNN search tool and indexed by search engines, so that people can find the content.  Something similar to this:

NY Times article

Any ideas on how to make this possible?  Thanks,

-Jim

For external search it would probably require a core mod to the authentication roles checker. Maybe you could set up a role for search engines then sniff the user agent and ip for some level of security. It's not the most secure but remember google cache can show non-users everything thats been indexed.

For Internal searches we use Open Search from opendnn it allows for user impersonation.

you can develop a module, that is publically viewable, support iSearcheable (the interface used to index your texts in DotNetNuke and provide a custom permission, needed to display the complete article.

It will be more difficult, to submit non-public articles to search engines, especially because most search engines only include public content.

Most sites make a portion of the content public, and require you to login for the rest of the article.
