How would you automate a module install.

For example :

1. A Clean DNN Site
2. Install a third party module using xcopy to the web directory and a few API calls to the backend. ie no mouse or UI interaction.

Does anyone have a script or can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do it ?

Thanks

Put it in the <dnn root>/Install/Modules folder, then call http://www.yoursite.com/Install/Install.aspx?mode=InstallResources

The other option for installing a module from the /Install/Module directory (and this works similarly for the /Install/Skin, /Install/Container, /Install/Language, etc. directories) is to allow it to happen according to a periodic schedule.  There is a job on the DNN Scheduler (DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.InstallResources) which can be configured to run periodically and peform those auto installs.  It was designed exactly for this purpose, although that job is turned OFF by default.

Scott, you must have missed the memo.  Running a scheduled job to perform module installs does not work.  It is because there is no http context in the background thread.

Install/Install.aspx?mode=Resources doesnt work !

I wish to use the Module Wrapper by www.zldnnmodule.com in my DNN (4.4.1) site.
So far we have been installing it through the manual process of the Module Install page.
We wish to automate the module install.
We have tried without any success to use the /Install/Module folder process.
This is what we have attemped :

1. Place the module "ZLDnn-ModuleWrapper v435 PA.zip" into the websites /Install/Module folder.
2. Open up a browser and call up http://localhost/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Resources
[where localhost renders to the main front page]
3. Blank page appears with "Done" at the bottom left. There appears to have been no activity.
4. Redirect Browser to http://localhost and login and navigate to the module definitions page.
5. The module we just tried to load doesn't appear.

We even tried steps 1-5 we repeated with the original package "ZLDnn-ModuleWrapper v435 PA.zip" renamed to "ZLDnnModuleWrapper_04.03.05_Install.resources."

No Luck..

Conclusion : This mechanism doesnt work
Any ideas ?
