Hi!

I am using DNN for intranet where I work. I set up child portals for the departments.  If I give a user admin right they can edit all the portals.   How can I have separate admitrator rights for each child portal so they can only have control for thie child portal?

Yes, if you give the admin's different usernames and passwords they will be unique to each child portal.

If I edit the user to be in administration role they can edit all the child and parent portal.  How can I make another administrator roll?  One for each child portal?  Or what am I missing.

each parent or child oportal has its own admins. An admin can only access more than one portal, if the same loginname and pasword is chosen on creation.
