Hey All-

When I register users, the email they get that tells them their username and password also lists the URL to the site as the IP address.  We have an alias that we want to appear in the message instead of the IP.  Anyone know where I would change that?

THANKS

Go to Admin > Languages, click on Language Editor and locate Resource Name: EMAIL_USER_REGISTRATION_PUBLIC_BODY.Text on that screen.

Change the text to your liking and don't forget to save it :)

Look around that editor for other things you might want to change - Viva DNN! :)

Quick explanation to why IP address shows up instead of domain name.

That letter uses tokens to place actual information at the run time. For example, it uses [User:FirstName] to insert that particular user's first name (surprized?) URL is also inserted on the spot - and it uses the portal alias that is currently in use. So if you are testing your site using IP address and you'll go and register, that IP address will show up in the email as Portal URL. If you were on one of your actual domain names, then that one would've showed up.

So, if you have multiple domain names pointing to the site but what only a specific one to be the one showing up in email, then hardcode that URL into your email text. Otherwise, keep it dynamic as it is now.

Thanks!  This is what I was looking for.  This is just one site, our intranet, so I hardcoded in the language editor.

That language editor is in either case specific to just that one portal where you are changing it. So, it wouldn't affect any other portals within that installation anyway.

Interestingly, on one of my clients, we have an internet domain name used by field agents and an intrAnet domain for backoffice people. So when they create a new user, that email really cannot be sent with "Portal URL: \\oursite\" in the text... So we also hardcoded that email... But in most cases token is the best idea.
