Hi,

Newbie question: I am trying to incorporate my own datacentric aspx pages that aren't easily developed in DNN ... to my DNN based site.  I'd like to mix DNN's security module and some of it's module capabilities (reports, content management etc) with my own customized screens in asp.net.

I've created a test page which is no more than a label with text ... that I'm trying to import into my DNN based site.    I've ftp'ed my asp folders and files to a folder within the root.... and I can't figure out how to bring it in or to make it work.

When I try to "add" a page, none of the options under Advanced Settings seem to apply except for URL (Link to an External Resource).   But when I add the reference using the virtual directory path, I get an error message "The Resource Cannot Be found".

Is there anything wrong with the approach I'm taking.   And ... how do I get a simple aspx page added to within my DNN Site Navigation.

Thanks!

Marc

The short answer is that you can't do it directly.

If you have content you want to include and host inside of a DNN skin, you can create a page, and then add an IFrame to that page to actually provide the content.

Personally if you are looking at building pages from scratch, it is not that hard to just build it as a module instead and you will have a much easier time integrating it to your site.  Have a look at Michael Washington's tutorials on module development (http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com)

Hi Mitchel,

Thanks for your reply ... sorry it took so long for my reply (I moved this week).

I will take a look at that tutorial.   I guess the tradeoff is do I work within DNN to take advantage of its rich capabilities (e.g. Security) .... or do I reinvent certain wheels to gain greater control of my development.  If it is easy to adapt asp.net functionality to a module.... I'm there.

Anyway .... thanks again!

Marc
