Was working fine for about an hour or so then users started to receive this error -

it means that youve ran out of space on your sql server. This means that either you had a fixed size database and you've used all the space now, or else that the database was set to auto-resize and you've ran out of space on the harddrive that the database is sitting. To resolve, follow it's instructions i.e.

Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup

sql 2000 - http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-1035_11-1043673.html

sql 2005 - http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2007/08/08/sql-server-2005-ssms-enable-autogrowth-database-property/

Please note, you need hard-drive space available otherwise theres no point enabling autogrowth.
