This has been the most annoying problem i have encountered in DNN 4, in older versions it did not have this.

But whenever the database is taken down, DNN shows this Auto Install Wizard and then it recreates a new web.config file overwriting the old one. This creates a new <machinekey> And then when the database is taken back up, I am no longer able to login using all my Superuser account and Regular accounts because of the new <machinekey>

I am currently not able to login right now with any of my accounts.

Can anyone help with this?

In the web.config right under the connectionString section is a key called something like "UseAutoInstallWizard="True"". Change it to false and the wizard won't fire.

However, I've never seen this happen before myself. The wizard doesn't create a new web.config but it does make some changes to the current one (adds an installation date for one thing). The wizard won't acutally run unless there's a web.config there already. It sounds to me like something else is going on. Can you explain more what happens/why the database would be taken down? Is it a regular occurrence on just an occasional thing. Is your site hosted somewhere or are you running it on your own server?

I am using webhost4life shared hosting. They took down my database cause the db limit was reached, and they did not give any warning whatsoever about taking it down. This problem always happens when the DB is taken down, and the autoinstallwizard pops up.

I have two DNN sites running on the same DB. So last night they took it down, and the site had an error, i kept hitting the refresh button for both of my sites.

One site it would have the "DNN can not access the db" error and it would show the database name.

My other site would then show the Auto Install Wizard. Once this is up, i dont click the "Next" button , i just leave it alone.  Only one site will have the Autoinstallwizard page.

When they finally take the database back up, the site works again and shows all the data, but when i log back in, i can not login with any of the Host/Admin/Register accounts anymore.

My usual fix would be to ask the helpdesk to restore the old web.config before the takedown . When the old web.config is restored i am able to Log back in and use all the accounts.

But tonight i restored the old web.config and it still does not work.. I still can not login with any of my accounts.

I also got this error last night after i tried to restore the old web.config and then proceeded to login, then it shows this error

""A critical error has occurred.
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.""

Usually this web.config restore would work, but i dont know what happen why this is not working anymore.
