Sorry if this has been answered before. I have not been able to find an easy solution I can follow.

I have my DNN 4.8.2 site running on localhost. When I tried to run on a real server I find that my hosting provider does not support sql 2005 server but MS access instead. Is there tutorials anywhere I can follow on how to switch over to MS access? I am at a point where I can start al over again from scratch if need be. Thank you for any help.

Sorry, since DNN3 there is no Jet Engine Support any longer, you need to find a host, who supports SQL Server (Express).

I came across something call DAL but I am not sure where to start. Is there any 3rd party module I can purchase that will get me around the problem?

There is not third party DAL that supports Access for DNN.  As mentioned above, support for Access was dropped in the 3.x days, and personally It just isn't worth trying.  Even if you found a provider for the core, you would then need a special provider for each module, and that would be almost impossible.

I would simply look for a different host that supports SQL Server, I use 3Essentials and am very happy with them, you can find a referral link in my signature.

While there are plenty of hosting companies that do have SQL, I would strongly recommend moving.   That being said, and depending on what you want to do,   DNN V2 does support Access.  This is a very old version of DNN and would be a hugh step back.   You can locate DNN V2 in the archives.  Please note:  you will have little help if you go this route.    So consider moving to a new Hoster.

Paul.
