Hello,

I am using Network Solutions to host my DNN site.  All the dotnetnuke stuff is installed in root/DNN.  So, when my site is navigated to www.mysite.com.  There is a redirect page in the root that redirects to www.mysite.com/dnn.  How can I get rid of this /dnn?  I have limited access to the server and am hoping I can get this done via a setting or two? Also, I know all external links to pages will break when I do this, but what about internal links from page to page?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

-Scott

Hi Scott,
You may want to contact Network Solutions to discuss this.  It sounds like an IIS redirect or simply a page forcing the redirect.  As far as your internal pages are concerned, they should not break.

You should also check your portalalias table in SQL to see if it has an alias in there mapped to /dnn.  I'd imagine your "root" (domain) is mapped to the DNN application, right?  (this instead of having a virtual directory under the root mapped to the /dnn).  If you main domain is mapped to a different application and the DNN app is mapped to /dnn, then this is the correct functionality and until you remap the root domain to your DNN app you won't be able to get around it.  One way or another though, you'll still want to look at your PortalAlias table and see what sort of aliases it has set up.

If it shows www.somedomain.com AND www.somedomain.com/dnn, whichever one is higher up the chain will take precedence.  In other words, if the /dnn is higher up and somebody hits www.somedomain.com it'll redirect to the /dnn when they click to any new pages.

As mentioned by the other response on this post, check to make sure your hosting provider doesn't have a static redirect to the /dnn path as well.

Either install DNN to the root instead of a subdirectory or change the root of the site to be the /DNN folder (which you can't on your host).  This has nothing to do with portal aliases or DNS, the root of your site is at www.sample.com and DNN is in a subfolder at www.sample.com/DNN.  Any request to access files in that subfolder must include the subfolder on the URL.
