This may or may not have been discussed before, but I keep getting a Timeout error when searching the forum, soo...

Since the templates do not work in DNN 4.9, I decided to create a base page to use as a template... Now I am finding a new problem (Bug?). When I create a new page and select to copy from my template page, I chose to "copy" the modules from the template page. When the new page is created, none of the module settings from the template page are copied over and I am forced to redo the settings for every single module on every single page I create. Since this is such a critical feature, I am very concerned! I have just created a new website and need to create hundreds of pages and at this rate... Im very frustrated with this. Is there any patch or workaround to this? thanks.

Which modules are you talking about? Some correctly implement IPortable, others do not.

Yeah the forum search doesnt work. Try www.searchdotnetnuke.com or google.

if you are able to copy (not refer to or create blank) a module, the module does support iPortable, however, only DNN standardsettings are included by default, all other settings need to be handled by the module itself in its iPortable implementation. Which module and which setting are you referring to?

Sorry for the delay in responding guys... I was not aware that this was up to the module developer! I wish I knew that so I didnt buy modules that do not implement iPortable! But now I know for the future. Thank you for clarifying this for me.

I was actually referring to the HouseMenu module in particular. When I create new pages, I copy a page which has this module in it but the settings for the module are not copide over. So I assume I need to find a menu module that actually uses iPortable so the settings will be copied. Do I have that correct?

I *believe* that it is possible to extend a module to implement the IPortable interface, but I have not had a need to try it out (and it thus remains only a theory).

One could replace the BusinessControllerClass for a given module with a custom class that either inherits or decorates the existing business controller, and additionally implements the missing interfaces. Naturally, the existing business controller would need to provide enough readable metadata to properly serialize.

I would rank this as a "somewhat difficult" development task, and since it has not yet been attempted (to my knowledge), it is probably not for the faint of heart. There is likely to be some issue that renders it infeasible anyway.

Nonetheless, I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who wishes to attempt.
