Can someone point me to some good resources that will help with fine tuning our site search results?   I see the site is scheduled to be indexed in a regular basis, but the results still seem to be out of whack.  I don't know if we need to refine the something in our pages or where to begin?  I also noticed there's not a forum that's specific to the search, so I thought I'd begin here.  My DNN tabs do have different and specific titles, as well as meta descriptions and keywords.

Hi Michelle,

What the scheduled service does is to go around to all modules and ask them: can I have a list of searchable content. By default it does that every 30 minutes. If you find erroneous results, then either (1) the content changed since the last scheduled service ran, or (2) the content was not handed correctly to the service. The latter is a process that is invisible to you as it is the programmer that decides what goes to the search. It is not a literal copy of a web page that is indexed. This might explain discrepancies.

I would suggest looking into a 3rd party search engine, as you are not the first nor the last to have problems with the DNN default search.  A lot of users seem to like the venexus search engine.

Thanks Julian - I was guessing that was the case!

Just be aware that some of your RSS functionality is also tied to the scheduled search task. If you use RSS you'll want to cover that base as well with a 3rd party search tool or just leave the serach scheduled task running. Kind of a resource drain though.
