Hi Techies,

Is there a way to access "File Manager" module from any roles other than Admin?

Right now, File Manager is present in Admin and Host tabs, and it will be visible to a user only if we assign Admin rights or Host user rights.

I have a scenario, where i want File Manager to be displayed to the user so the user can upload documents using the module to the portal (But the other Admin tab pages such as (SiteSettings, Pages, UserAccounts... etc., ) should not be displayed). Is there a way to implement this?

I tried to create a page and give the link url directly to the File Transfer page (http://mywebsite/Admin/FileManager/tabid/86/Default.aspx). But when user logs in "Access denied" message is being displayed (since the user dont have admin rights).

Hope i explained the problem clearly. Looking for a favourable solution.. Thanks in advance!

Access to the FileManager by users in other than Administrators or Host is not permitted in DNN 4.x. I believe that this will be possible in the upcoming release of DNN 5.0. when many of the formerly administrator only modules will be able to be added to a page and allowed access by users other than Administrators or Host.

Instead, you would need to use one of the many core (or third party modules) which do allow file upload by non-administrators. For example, the core Documents, Repository, Text/Html can all be configured to upload files to folders which have been created and given the necessary permissions in FileManager.

Hi William,

Thanks a lot for your rapid response.

Is there any other unofficial way i can give that user Admin rights but hiding all other tabs from displaying to that user? My superiors liked the look of File Manager and the way it works, so i didnt want to compromise on that.. instead can i hide all other tab pages from that admin user? could you guide from where we are populating the Admin Menu item?

Thanks a lot for your support.

SARAN-
Yes, actually, you can give FILE MANAGER access to any security role you like.  It's not a core setting but it's possible to do from the DNN UI without need to purchase any third party module.

The trick is to use the "PAGE SETTINGS->PARENT PAGE" setting to move the File Manager page out of the ADMIN tabs (which are always off-limits to non admins) and into the general tabs.

Here's a posting on exactly how to do this:

Give ADMIN tab access to non-Admin DotNetNuke users (File Manager, Pages, etc):

The posting covers two differnt ways to do the same thing:  one using only the DNN UI and an alternate method using a SQL update.

Cheers!
