I searched around the forum for this so please forgive me if this is a redundant question.

I installed DNN and we built a site on a live IP address.  We know want to move that to our main web url.  I have run tests to try to change the host settings to the new ip address however, it just redirects to the old one automatically.

Does anyone know of my problem?

Hey mewillandale,

You will probably want to update the portal alias when you move to a new site. I'd suggest opening the database and adding a new row (or editing the existing one) so that the proper portal id has your new portal alias.

Hope that helps,

Ian

I stole this from a previous forum post I had:

The typical path for a Win2k3 server is DNS -> Server IP Address -> IIS Host Header -> DNN application / Portal Alias -> loads appropriate portal.

That might help clear things up. Essentially what is happening (I suspect) is that your web site is loading the appropriate DNN application, but the application is redirecting to the old portal alias.

Take care,

Ian

Make sure you have the correct portal alias defined for the application under the site settings. The value is stored in the PortalAlias table in the database.

Working now.
