I also get this error quite frequently when browsing the pages?  I notice it when I have made a code change and maybe DNN needs to recompile?  I am not sure, but would like to know the answer as well..

Thanks!

I also get this error intermittantly.  My site was born as 4.0.2 so I don't think that the conversion from 3.x is necessarily a factor.  Also, I have made no code changes whatsoever -- just standard DNN modules.

The error occurs randomly in any or all of the pages.  Sometimes I get 3 errors in a row, other times I go for a couple days without a problem.

The exceptions are thrown from all kinds of places, from UI.Utilities to Services.Localization.  The only common element seems to be the "object reference not set to an instance of an object".

I read somewhere that this could be a caching problem so I have tried all of the different host caching levels from no caching to heavy caching.  No affect.

This is making me nervous as the time to go into production nears.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is what I found:

FIX: Error message when you try to browse the root folder of a Web application that is built on the .NET Framework 2.0: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
(911300) - Fixes a problem that may occur when you try to browse the root folder of a Web application that is built on the .NET Framework 2.0 when you are using ASP.NET wildcard application mapping.

I was getting these errors with 4.0.2 on my dev box (WinXP), but hadn't seen it happen at all on my production server (2003 Server). Interesting thing is that the errors completely stopped when I upgraded from 1Gb to 1.5Gb of RAM on the dev box.
