Thanks for your replies.  I'll see if I can obtain the hotfix from Microsoft, but it is a little unclear whether it addresses a problem that happens intermittently.

My configuration is: Win2k3 SBS with SP1, IIS 6.0, SQL 2000 Std with SP3, 1.3Gb RAM.

Further research makes me wonder if the problem is because I set up DotNetNuke as a "Web site" instead of a virtual directory.  I did this so that I could use host headers to segregate different sites that I have running.  Could this be an issue?
