Linus would probably object, but it may be possible to run it on Linux.  :)

Check out the Mono project to get ASP.NET on Linux.  You'll have some definite issues, such as not being able to run SQL Server on the same system, potential issues with the File Manager and so on, but you may be able to get it to work.  Frankly, if DNN is the driving factor, use Windows to host it.  If Linux is the driving factor, use Joomla or another PHP-based portal framework.

The mono project might be able to run DNN but the main thing to remember is that you have to use source reliese of DNN and recompile DNN with the mono vb.net compiler. That is how far my understanding goes about the mono project.

DotNetNuke requires .Net framework, IIS (or compatible) and SQL Server to run, it would be a huge effort neeeded to port it running on Mono, with a different web server and SQL Server. If you are looking for a Linux CMS, there are already a number of them, you should evaluate.

Mono will always be behind when it comes to its implementation of the latest version of .NET. I don't believe it supports 3.5 so no LINQ? So if DNN or any module vendor starts using anything very new, you will be out of luck.
