How does one change the default root HomeDirectory path?

Currently:
portals store paths such as "Portals/0", and "Portals/1"

Desired:
I want to set the root path to something different, such as http://MyFileServer.com/

THEN, when a portal is created in DNN, it will store this value for the HomeDirectory:
http://MyFileServer.com/0
http://MyFileServer.com/1

Of course, this means that the MapPath to these locations would also have to be known to DNN.  Such as  \\MyFileServer\Portals\0
\\MyFileServer\Portals\1

Is this possible?  How do I do it?  IF not, this is a MUST have in future releases of DNN.  Any feedback on this topic would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Seems I have exactly the same problem.

The problem for me is:

1) The administrator of the portal (seems to?) need to place his documents right inbetween all the other portal files (the skin and container directories etc). The admin can even accidently or unknowingly delete the portal skin/container files etc. I have not found an option to change this behaviour.

what have I tried:

1) The option at host>portals >portal settings> Advanced > Page Management > Home Directory says "Portals/x", if we could change that to let's say "Files/x" then the problem would be solved I guess. This way multiple portals could even share document directories.

what I haven't tried:

1) I found some traces of documentation (http://www.cnblogs.com/shotdog/archive/2004/12/13/76589.aspx) where I see <homedirectory>Portals/[PortalId]</homedirectory> in a DNN template. Maybe this way you could configure it, create a template that holds that states <homedirectory>Files/[PortalId]</homedirectory> which in your case wouldn't work since you want it on another serverpath. The reason I haven't tried this is because I haven't had the time to look at templates, I will try this soon if no other sollution pops up.

2) edit the source code or find & edit the value in the database. I'd rather not do this, since this possibly breaks compatibilty up future updates of DNN.

So if anyone has found a way to do this, please help :)

Dennis
