My rich text editor loads slowly and the typing response times are delayed.  Can anyone give me any tips for making this perform better?

Nope but I have exactly the same problem so if you do manage to fix it please let us all know!

Waht I do notice is that it is far far slower on my old home PC that it is on my nice quick work PC!

Got the same problem, so I switch to FireFox 3. Now everything is blazing fast and I'm finding myself using IE less frequently. Today I only login as admin or host with Firefox, IE is just to slow.

FCKEditor heavily uses JavaScript, which is executed by the client's browser engine. JS performance had been a focus for most of the browser developement teams, Firefox and especially Google Chrome did a very good job on it. IE 8 will increase some performance in this area, but AFAIK the focus on performance will be for IE 9.

However, be aware, that a number of plugins may slow down any browser...

Thanks for the replies.  I guess I'm at least happy to know I am not the only one seeing this.  I am also using FF3 and still see some delay when using the editor.
