Hello. On a fresh install of 4.9.1, the first thing I tried to do was uncheck Enable AJAX under Host Settings, as I discovered a bug with aspdotnetstorefront that required this to be unchecked. However, when I cleick Update, I got the following error, which is repeatable: A critical error has occurred. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The Event Viewer shows the following: AssemblyVersion: 04.09.01 PortalID: 0 PortalName: Nature's Avenger Organic Herbicide | Weed Killer | Natural Bed Bug Killer | Natural Bug & Insect Killer UserID: 1 UserName: NAOHost ActiveTabID: 16 ActiveTabName: Host Settings RawURL: /Host/Host Settings/tabid/16/portalid/0/Default.aspx AbsoluteURL: /Default.aspx AbsoluteURLReferrer: http://74.86.198.214/Host/Host%20Settings/tabid/16/portalid/0/Default.aspx UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/1.0.154.53 Safari/525.19 DefaultDataProvider: DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider ExceptionGUID: 1d20eca2-a23c-40bf-85a7-4f95409c6984 InnerException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I can reproduce the issue on 4.9.2...

Hopefully 4.9.3 will sort this out(?), please follow this issue I just logged:
http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=9633

I suspect though (not sure) this is a one time error that can be ignored.

In the meantime your real solution is getting aspdotnetstorefront working with AJAX as DNN 5.x will require it, and maybe some of your other modules will as well....

Accepted Answer

Confirmed this is a one-time error.

The Error happens

The error is logged

AJAX is disabled

Error does not recur

Thanks so much for the help! it's too bad the the aspdotnetstorefront has a glitch that requires this to be turned off. The Re-Order link in order history won't function if it is on. They have it logged in their support queue. In the mean time, if I have AJAX turned off, an IE7 browser shows the "Done, but with Errors on the Page" icon at the bottom right of the page. I don't want it to look like my web site is buggy, but as stated ADNSF won't work correctly with it on, so it's a catch-22. :-)
