We had a security problem on a test machine and now my DNN site (a bunch of design hours dropped in)... Unfortunately, I have no backup. (of course). As well, I can't say for sure if this error is due to the security problem.

I am getting the message above in the subject.

I also tried to run the latest 5.0 upgrade install on it, seeing if there is something missing... There was some discussions about AutoUpgrade=True and Install = True issue, but I'm not sure if I should try that since there is content in the DB that I don't want to loose.

    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="DotNetNuke.install.config" />
    <add key="AutoUpgrade" value="true" />
    <add key="UseInstallWizard" value="true" />
    <add key="InstallMemberRole" value="true" />
    <add key="ShowMissingKeys" value="false" />
    <add key="EnableWebFarmSupport" value="false" />
    <add key="EnableCachePersistence" value="false" />
    <add key="HostHeader" value="" />

Any susggestions on how to get it back up and operational?

it is hard to say without knowing what the exact issue is.

However, first of all if the information in the db is important before you do ANYTHING else, back it up, just incase something happens!!!!

I would check to be sure that your connection strings to the database are still correct, as that is one of the biggest things that triggers the message.  The best way to test is to try logging into SSMS with the information in the connection string.

I have no idea why.. Where do I look?  How do you trouble shoot this?  I have already tried clean installs twice.  This is the farthest I've gotten.

I've tried everything to get this to work.  I think DNN must be the biggest waste of my time.. configuring, etc.  It takes forever to even get it to run.  It took forever to get everything working with 4.9 and now 5.0 is a nightmare.  I installed joomla! in like a minute... every time. no issues at all.  Goodbye dnn.

PS.  Your instructions that you need to sign up for ... suck!  They say nothing of value.  Good luck.

this message generally means that your connection string is incorrect - ie it cannot connect to the database.. You have two areas in the web.config to enter the database connection string both must be entered.

If the connection string is ok then check your sql server configuration

I do agree however that the message could be improved.
