I don't know if it is the common practice, but I would like to create/modify my DNN website on my local PC and always upload finished new version to my webhoster - not to do everything on the webhoster's server. Is it viable? If yes, how do I upload changes from my local DNN to the webhoster's server?

I did a small discussion on the topic here.

It might be easier to read than type out here.

IMHO, by doing that you are eliminating one of the main advantages of DNN away.  The ability to change content real-time is one of the main reason to use DNN.  So my question would be, what is your reasoning for wanting to do it this way.

Some reasons may be as follows:

  1. Speed - it is always faster to experiment locally
  2. Security - it is always better to have 2 copies
  3. "Create-before-buy" - it may take me several months to complete my website and I need not to pay for webhosting during that time if I will be creating locally

Thanks for the link, Nina. I read through the article, but I would appreciate something more detailed - for newbies like myself. E.g.
"If you wanna put your local working DNN site to your provider's server, you must do this, copy this, change this etc., and you must have these rights granted by your provider."
And:
"If you wanna update the working copy on your provider's server with the local changes you recently made, you must copy this etc.".

Can the above be briefly specified?
