Hi all,

Many of us have installed DNN... but what I haven't seen much discussion about is how we're securing our installations. What security monitoring practices do you all have in place? What are some good resources to learn more about this?

I ask because we've recently been spam-listed, and DNN is the only software residing on the server. While we figured and fixed the issue, DNN and security is definitely something to discuss / think more about!

Thanks for your ideas,

--Dave

Dave,

Overall, there is the hardening guide that you can follow in the documentation that is available on this site.  In addition ensuring that you change all default passwords etc are the good ways of starting validation within DotNetNuke.

The next thing is to only put Modules in your site that are from trusted developers as individual modules could potentially introduce security holes.

After that, it really comes down to standard server security.  Limit the surface area by only exposing the access points that are required to do what you need.  Use a firewall those types of standard server setup.
