Hi;

I’m trying to setup the SMTP settings in my DNN website and I’m confused a little bit…

Now I have the DNN in one server and there is another exchange server in the same farm, my questions are:

-Is it necessary that I setup the (SMTP server) on the (exchange server) or I can setup my (DNN server) to be a (SMTP Server)

-If the (SMTP server) should be on (exchange server), what I have to set on the exchange server to get it works.

Thanks in advance for any help

It doesn't matter, which SMTP server you use (either Windows or Exchange) but the account needs to be configured properly for relaying.

Thanks for the feedback...

what are the required configurations on the exchange server?

If you need to configure exchange for relaying mail generated from a web server (IIS), I would consult other forums on the internet to do with MS Exchange or use google. MS Exchange isn't really a DNN application. MS Exchange can be quite complex (I bought a book when I started out, if you are using Exchange this is an essential) although the default settings make life much easier nowadays.

Otherwise your Exchange administrator can provide you the credentials.

SMTP server settings are found in DNN's Host settings.

Many thanks

Alex Shirley
