Hi, I have a client’s site hosted on Helm system. I want to add a parent portal to his DNN site.
In Helm, adding a sub domain creates a subdirectory to the root and direct the requests for the sub domain to that directory.
In DNN however, the parent portal is created in portals/#

For example: I want to add a parent portal in www.mydomain.com with a sub domain demo.mydomain.com
In Helm I define a sub domain named “demo” and helm creates a folder “demo” in the root of www.mydomain.com. I t also direct requests for that sub domain to the folder “demo”
In DNN I define a parent portal  demo.mydomain.com and DNN creates the folder /portals/1 and expect to get requests for demo.mydomain.com redirected to it.
Obviously it will not work.

I thought of using some script to redirect all requests from demo folder to portals/1 but I really don't want to do it since it is not a reliable approach for such things (I think)
Is there any way to work around this?

Thank you.

I do not believe that this is possible with a control panel.  For everything to work in DNN, other domains, or sub domains, must all point to the same place, ailasing the actual domain.

I'm sure you could "Trick" it, but that becomes risky to manage.

hmmm... I might not be understanding this correctly but I used helm when my host was ihostasp.net.
all i did back then was add a new domain in the control panel area and then add that to the DNN portal information.
I always assumed it would work the same for subdomains.....

Mitch, thank you. You are reassuring my suspicion that it is too risky trying to trick it. I’m afraid it has to be done on the host company level to point the sub domain to the root instead of the new folder.

JDR, thank you.
I am not sure if it is the same situation. You are talking about a domain, not a sub domain and I think you pointed the domain name to the same place as the original site you had which should be OK. All that is done in the DNS level.
In my situation I use sub domain which is redirected by the host (the company, not DNN) and there Helm interfering and caused the issue by redirecting it to a new sub folder.
