I've posted before about roles and a custom module not working properly.  I think I have over complicated the explanation of the problem.  Try again:

  1. Create two roles.
    1. Editor
    2. CreditSystemReportViewers
  2. Create two users
    1. Report Viewer - assign role of CreditSystemReportViewer
    2. dcwood57 - assign role of Editor
  3. Create new page with only an HTML module on it.
  4. Assign permissions to page with the exact same - each role has view and edit privledges.
  5. Log in as dcwood57 - edit options show up.
  6. Log in as ReportViewer - edit option does not show up.

I believe that there is probably a problem in the database, but I don't know where to look.

Any suggestions?

I really appreciate the help

Regards,

Don

 That worked!

Interesting to me:

The long role name created no problem in 4.X installations of DNN.  In fact, updating 4.X installations to 5.X installations, this long role name still created no problems.  But on a new installation it DID create a problem.  I had to modify my custom module to look for the new shorter role name, create the role name in DNN, then updated the system.

Thanks for your help!
