Using DNN 5.1.1

While updating the Performance settings on the Host page the page went blank.  Now the site is completely unresponsive.  The changes I made were to the caching, and compression settings.  How can I restore my settings?  Do I need to restore the database or are there settings in a config file I can reset?

If you have access to the database using SQL Server Management Studio or other similar tool you should be able to reset the values which are stored in the HostSettings table. Here are the DNN 5.1.1 defaults for the cacheability, compression and performance settings:

AuthenticatedCacheability      4
HttpCompression                0
HttpCompressionLevel           0
ModuleCaching                  D
PageStatePersister             P
PerformanceSetting             3
SchedulerMode                  2
WhitespaceFilter               N

The ones most likely to cause the site to have gone down are the PageStatePersister and PerformanceSetting. After you have made the changes in the database you will need to either recycle/restart the server or force a restart by making a minor (add a space) edit to the site's web.config then re-save the web.config file.

By the way, here are a couple of links provided by Mitchel Sellers which explain the performance settings:

Thanks for your reply.  Once I reset the compression option the site started to work again.  This problem may have been because i was using the trial version ifinity URL Master.  Since then I installed the ifinity license.  Now i have set the compression any everything seems to be working OK.
