hi,

you are right, this is why i am not seeing my content.

I was just hoping that i could copy and paste content from one portal to the next (as a way of duplicating a site).

thanks again,
mark.

just to clarify,

If i wanted to create a new portal (to replicate an exact environment) could I copy and paste all content from one portal to another?

(e.g. all files inside 'portal 0' and paste inside 'portal 1') - could it in theory work?

Or would i need to do anything else first?

At the moment, after copying the portal content into my newly created portal - it doesnt show any of this content - it shows my skin, default page and my _default portal menu pages (but each of them are blank). I'm sure my IIS and my portalAlias are all correct.

thanks,
mark.

Because 99% of your content lives in the database, and it is tied to portal 0. Every module is bound to a portal and the only thing that exists in the folders would be supporting materials, such as images and documents.

If you want to copy one portal to another, export a portal template from portal 0 and create a new site off of that template (Host >> Portals >> In the portal module, select Export Portal Template).

If you are looking to replicate your dnn environment on a dev server, you're going about it in the wrong fashion. Note the comments in the posts above.

if i create a portal alias to be used as a development site - wouldn't this be just like having a new url to go to the same site and not a new site?

and would i be able to make a change to content on the development site and it not effect the content on the live site?

thanks,
mark

Do you want your "development site" in a seperate environment? If so,back up and restore the dnn installation as a new instance then add the dev url to the portal alias table.

If you just want to copy the existing content into a new portal, export the site as a portal template and import into a new portal.

If you need further help, you can contact me at the address below.
