That is correct. DisplayName is stored in the database and is not created dynamically. It's not affected by the use of Dynamic Registration. I also agree that creating a custom skin object to display exactly what you want to display is a reasonable approach. I've also used just a Text/HTML module along with token replacement to build replacement links for USER and LOGIN. Using a combination of the format and ifempty format, you can make these look exactly the way that you want them.

Joseph, I've never used the token replacement, that is fairly new to DNN isn't it? Do you happen to have an example of that I can look at?

I think that token replacement has been around since about version 4.6. That's not terribly new, but it's not perhaps well known. If you Google "DotNetNuke token replacement" you'll find some useful links. Datasprings has a list of tokens. I believe that the documentation for the Form and List module is still the best source of tokens. DNNCreative magazine has a video tutorial.
