I've had this DNN instance since version 5.1 and I haven't had this issue. 5.4.1 didn't have it either..

But now that I upgraded to 5.4.2 if I use the bulk email/newsletter feature. It eventually sends the e-mail but than the CPU for that iis process pegs the CPU at 100% and the server starts to crawl and the site becomes unresponsibe until I kill that process.

I have another DNN installation on the exact same server with the exact same SMTP setup except it's version 05.03.01 (7) and I'm able to send e-mails from it without a problem

Any ideas?

I ran it on my local system which is a windows 7 64 bit and when I send an email it causes the w3wp.exe to sit at 25 percent...
If I use process explorer I can see a busy thread there at 25 percent......

I had this issue once before with a .net site I was working on when I discovered that for some reason .net 3.5 doesn't properly send like the final smtp command during that protocol exchange I forget the exact specifics... I fixed it by switching it to use the pickup directory for sending messages instead of sending the messages internally with .net

But you can't set DNN to use the pickup directory (AFAIK)

So thoughts?
