I have a DNN site where I want to mimick the URL of another site in certain areas so when I click on a link, I want the redirecting "page.aspx" to be displayed as "a-123-same-text-as-other-site.aspx".

The pattern word be a-{number}-{dashed text}.aspx. I've never worked with this type of stuff before so I'm not really sure where to start.

Thanks

Set this in web.confg as or ... do this using one of the url mapping modules. My experience is that for SEO its better to do this manually.

Can I use the SiteUrls.config file? I was able to redirect to the right page using this method but it swapped out the URL

<RewriterRule>
  <LookFor>.*a-123-this-is-a-test.aspx(.*)</LookFor>
  <SendTo>page.aspx</SendTo>
</RewriterRule>

It took the a-123-this-is-a-test.aspx that was in the link, redirected to the page I wanted it to, but didn't keep the a-123-this-is-a-test.aspx URL.

To make sure I follow, you want a url, http://mysite.com/page1 to really point to a different spot, http://mysite.com/page2.  But the info that shows in this new spot is the info found at http://mysite.com/page1?

In essence you want to "trick" the user.  The url will say they are on one page but really they are on another page.  Is that it?
